Getting motivated and inspired to finish the year strong!
Wow! What a world-wind of a week! This year's Tom Ferry Success Summit in Dallas was my first time attending live, in person. I attended via livestream last year and I can definitely tell you that being in person was quite a different experience. For one, the energy in the room each day was enough to make it worth being there in person. Then you add on the jam-packed agenda full of super relevant topics each day and it's like drinking from a firehose! The overall theme of the event was to "Recession Proof" your business, which I think is a very important thing to be thinking about right now, no matter what your business is. Ultimately, it all comes down to mindset, right?
"There may be a recession; I choose not to participate and do the work!" -Tom Ferry
Day One Takeaways
What I loved about Day One was the focus on agent success stories. One of the best ways to learn and implement new things into your business is to learn what others are doing well and tweak it to make it work for you - add your own spin on it. (Or as Tom Ferry likes to say, R&D it - Rip off and duplicate!) We heard from 9 agents on different tactics they've used in their business to have success, ranging from listing presentation tips, mental fortitude, and even how to go from just an agent to a real estate investor yourself. It was all very inspiring!
"You're either ascending or you're descending!" - Tom Ferry
We've all heard the quote that true growth happens outside of your comfort zone. That's what struck me when Tom said from the stage, "you're either ascending or descending." If that doesn't give you a gut check, I don't know what will. It's a great reminder that if you want to reach the dreams and goals you've set for yourself, you have to be willing to be uncomfortable, like, all the time. It doesn't feel comfortable to constantly be pushing yourself to try new things, make new video content, talk to new people, hold yourself accountable to the tasks you said you were going to complete. But the reward when you stay the course is so worth it!
Day Two Takeaways
One of my favorite topics from day two was Jason Pantana's presentation on branding. Now more than ever, it's so important to show up authentically online. One of the worst things would be for a customer to find you online, start to trust you, and then when they finally meet you in person, they find you were putting on a persona that was not really you. Instant erosion of trust! Trust is the foundation of any successful relationship, including in business. A great way to build lasting trust online is to show up as your true self consistently. People want to work with people they like! So just be you, and I promise the rest will work itself out. In the "sea of sameness" that can be social media these days, you will differentiate yourself by being yourself.
"Your vibe attracts your tribe."
Day Three Takeaways
I think everyone was blown away by the keynote speaker of the event, Phil Jones. Phil Jones is a best selling author, showing people how the power of words impacts our lives. His best selling book, Exactly What to Say talks about "the Magic Words for Influence and Impact." I was moved by his authenticity and his mastery of communication. It reminded me that no matter who you are interacting with, whether it's clients or your partner, or friends, we need to listen more and talk less. If you're trying to problem solve with someone it's important to get to the root of the concern for them. The only way to do that is to ask better questions. The only way to ask better questions is to actually listen. This will grow your emotional intelligence, which is vital in leadership.
"The worst time to think about what you're going to say is when you're going to say it." - Phil Jones (live from the stage at Summit)
2023, here we come!
Happy New Year, y'all! Oh wait, it's only September. Haha. But seriously...we were encouraged at the conference to put into action our key takeaways and start planning out our strategy for next year. It's easy to get distracted by the holiday season and coast through the rest of the year. But as a business owner, if you do that, you'll be rolling into the new year saying to yourself, what am I supposed to be doing now? I'm excited to implement things I learned so I can serve my clients better now and in the future. I hope you'll do one thing each day that will improve your life. Remember, it all adds up!
